2025 Two Man League Rules/Scoring

MATCHES:
There are 8 matches scheduled during the season.  See the current schedule for dates, times and locations.
ALL TWO MAN PLAYERS ARE AUTOMATICALLY SCHEDULED TO PLAY UNLESS THEY CALL THE HOTLINE TO CANCEL.  If available, substitutes will be placed by a drawing  immediately before each match (unless specifically designated by the missing player).  No substitutes are allowed during the playoffs or finals.

Subs cannot be a player on another two man team, HOWEVER, DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF THE CLUB!  If a sub has a legit GHIN handicap, that index will be used for the match.  If they do not have a legit GHIN, the sub will play as scratch and the strokes given will based on the lowest handicap index.

MAKE-UP MATCHES:

Any make-up match must take place before the next scheduled 2 man match.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  Make-ups can take place anytime or anywhere before the scheduled match as well.  If teams cannot coordinate a make-up match, the showing team will play against a "phantom team". The non-showing team will receive 0 points.  IF ONE TEAM MEMBER IS AVAILABLE WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO PLAY THE MATCH!  There are also many options for subs (see above).

IF THE COURSES ARE OPEN AND PLAYABLE...WE WILL PLAY. If any matches on a play date cannot be finished because of the weather, all matches that day will not count.  We will try to schedule a make-up date if possible.  If the match cannot be made up, standings will be based on the best 5 matches.  In the event of inclement weather at the playoffs,  play will be determined by decision of the majority of the players involved.

FORMAT/POINTS:
This is a net best ball format (also known as four ball).  The lowest net individual score for each team on each hole determines which team wins the one point for that hole.  Points are halved in the event of a tie.
There is an extra point for the team winning the front 9 (most holes won), the back 9 (most holes won) and the overall 18 (most holes won). These extra points can be split/halved, awarding each team 1/2 pt.  There are 21 points available for each match.

SCORING:
Players will be given matchup and course specific scorecards for their match that day, with handicaps and stroke holes noted/highlighted  (90% of current USGA handicaps are used for these matches).  The maximum strokes given to any player on a par 3 hole is 1.  Matches against the Phantom are scored the same way, however, teams will only get 70% of their handicaps in this match.  One person in the match should be selected as the official scorer. Scores and point standings should be verified throughout the match in order to avoid confusion or objections at the end of the match!  Each score card should show the gross score of each player and the split of the 21 points for the match.  Score cards are to be signed, dated, and turned in after the match.
DO NOT SCORE AS MATCH PLAY...EACH HOLE IS WORTH PTS TOWARDS THE MATCH TOTAL.  SEE PICTURE BELOW FOR EXAMPLE SCORING (click to view larger.  NO EXCEPTIONS! WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO EASILY READ THE CARDS!

REPLACEMENT AND NO-SHOW TEAMS:
If a player withdraws or quits the club for any reason, a replacement will be allowed (before July 9).  If a team is a no show or cannot make a match event, causing one team to not have an opponent, that team will play against a "phantom" team by playing against a net par score for each hole.  The team will only use 70% of their handicaps in this event.  If there is another single team available due to a no-show, the two single teams will compete.  If two teams scheduled to compete are no-shows and cannot schedule a make-up match in time, both teams will receive
zero points for that match. Make-up matches must occur before the next 2 man league match.

TEAM STANDINGS:
Points are accumulated during the 8 matches.  THE LOWEST TWO SCORES WILL BE DROPPED TO ESTABLISH TOTAL POINTS AND STANDINGS AT THE END OF THE SEASON.

PLAYOFFS AND FINALS:
8  teams go to the single elimination playoffs. Teams in spots 5 thru 12 go to a single elimination wild card playoff in August.  The winning 4 teams go on to the playoffs with teams in positions 1 thru 4.   Format is match play for the playoffs and finals.  No substitutes allowed. If there is a tie for the 8th place tie breakers are (1) highest score of the wild card match .  If still a tie,  (2) a coin toss.

In the event of a tie at the playoffs or finals, play will continue as a sudden death playoff.  Players should check with the clubhouse, explain what is happening and coordinate with the clubhouse which hole to start the playoff.

If, before the playoffs, a team drops out of the competition, next  highest wild card score will move up to 8th place.
